Baccarat lead-crystal decanter, model 550 moulé à draperies, dating from 1850–1935, in excellent condition with minor signs of wear, height 26 cm, base diameter 10 cm, from France, with its original crystal stopper.
Description from the seller
This imposing decanter in transparent crystal is a historic Baccarat production. The complete absence of the acid stamp, introduced only in 1936 to replace the traditional paper labels, allows us to locate the manufacture of this piece in a time span between 1840 and 1936. The design perfectly matches the original contemporary catalog published by Launay, Hautin & Cie in 1840 (section “Cristaux moulés en plein”, Plate 3, “Service moulé à draperies” number 550), the year that marks the very first production of the model.
The object was made by blowing into a mechanically flanged mold, a cutting-edge technique introduced thanks to the historic innovations and patents of Ismael Robinet at Baccarat workshops, which makes the three-dimensional geometric reliefs feel tangible even on the inner wall.
The body is decorated with vertically high-relief festoons, topped by horizontal cords on the faceted neck, and is completed by its original full-crystal stopper with petal form and a flat mushroom-style handle.
From a conservation standpoint, the piece is in excellent overall condition, showing normal signs of age such as microchips on the body and at the base of the stopper, details that attest to its authentic life without minimally altering its stability or its substantial overall aesthetic appeal.
The photographic gallery provides faithful visual evidence of the current state of the lot.
Measurements: height including stopper 26/27 cm, base diameter 10/11 cm, and a weight of 1.9 kg, attesting to the very high density of ancient lead crystal. We guarantee fast shipping and careful, protective packaging.
