AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The work was exhibited at the sixth Contemporary Art Show “CORTONA IN ARTE,” held in Cortona (Arezzo) from September 19 to October 4, 2026, and is published in the exhibition catalog.
Fratture in rete presents a female figure in the act of pointing a smartphone toward herself. The body alternates between light surfaces and a dark, perforated structure: the figure interrupts, lets the void emerge, and recomposes itself in space.
The everyday gesture of digital self-portraiture therefore takes on a sculptural dimension. The phone becomes the focal point of a reflection on the image of the self, on identity, and on the relationship between what we show and what remains hidden. The “net” evoked by the title can be read both in the body's texture and in the virtual space where our image is shared.
The sculpture does not merely represent: it holds, consumes, reveals. It is a presence that arises from void and matter, from fragment and reconstruction, transforming the work into a living trace of an evolving thought.
The contrast between surfaces, together with the alternation of full and empty spaces, invites viewing the work from multiple perspectives, uncovering the continuous change in the relationship between figure and structure.
The glossy finish enhances the colors and follows the anatomical twists of the body, creating different reflections depending on the light and making the sculpture particularly dramatic even in contemporary and minimalist settings.

Artist Biography

Angelo Scardino (Grottaglie, 1986) is a sculptor and a teacher of Plastic and Sculptural Disciplines. After his training at the Liceo Artistico “Lisippo” in Manduria, he earned first- and second-level academic diplomas in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce, both with the grade of 110 with honors.
His research combines traditional sculpture, digital design, and 3D printing, exploring the relationship between figure, matter, and space. Through dialogue between fullness and emptiness, fragmentation and reconstruction, he addresses themes of identity, memory, and transformations of contemporary society, with references to pop culture.
In 2025 he was selected as a finalist for the Arte Prize, promoted by the Arte magazine of Cairo Editore, and he received the Michelangelo Prize. Recent exhibition participations include “Tune In,” within Paratissima Torino 2024; “Unpredictable–Untitled,” at Paratissima 2025 in Moncalieri; and the sixth edition of “Cortona in Arte” in 2026.
Alongside his individual career, he collaborates with Cinzia Ascari in the artistic duo A_SCAR, whose research focuses on the relationship between nature, matter, and memory. In 2026 the duo won the MG Award for sculpture at the Arte Prize with the work Custodi invisibili, which will be exhibited at the Museo della Permanente in Milan from October 13 to 18, 2026.
