A single 40 cm maiolica wall plate from Marche, Italy, handmade and hand-painted in the Molaroni Pesaro workshops (circa 1950–1960) with blue cobalt decoration and a central heraldic bird, featuring a double historic signature with the production mark ‘Molaroni Pesaro’ and the crude imprint ‘50’ plus the original distribution mark ‘F. Gabrielli – 22 Via Condotti, Roma’, and in excellent condition with rare use and minor wear.
Description from the seller
parade or wall plate in artistic maiolica (diameter about 40 cm), entirely handmade and hand-painted in the laboratories of the historic Molaroni porcelain manufactory of Pesaro, a benchmark of Italian ceramic tradition since 1880.
The work is enriched by a very rare double historical signature on the back that attests both its excellent craftsmanship and exclusive commercial provenance:
1. The Production Signature: bears the authentic hand-script blue sigla under glaze reading "Molaroni Pesaro", accompanied by the raw-pressed number "50" that identifies its period of manufacture (mid-20th century).
2. The Distribution Mark: features the original vintage logo of the famous and elegant art shop "F. Gabrielli – 22 Via Condotti, Rome". In the 1950s, Gabrielli in Via Condotti represented the absolute reference for Roma high society and international elite tourism seeking Italy’s finest majolica art and collectible ceramics.
Artistic Characteristics:
The plate shows a refined monochrome cobalt blue decoration on the mentioned white glaze, echoing Renaissance decorative motifs of the Pesaro tradition:
• In the center: Depiction of a heraldic bird (phoenix or bird of paradise) with wings spread, surrounded by elegant motifs of floral tendrils.
• On the rim: A rich and elaborate garland of continuous vegetal spirals and stylized buds that magnificently frames the central scene.
An important display piece, perfect for 20th-century art ceramic collectors and lovers of high-end Italian vintage design."
