AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Original Oil Painting – Alexander Antonovich Rizzoni (1836–1902)
A rare and authentic oil painting by the Russo-Italian master Alexander Rizzoni, a leading figure of European Academism at the end of the nineteenth century. Executed in 1900 in Sorrento. Oil on canvas-board.

Diagnostic investigations – Infrared reflectography: Among the images in the listing there are two infrared reflectograms in black and white of the work. In the first image, relating to the face area, the underlying pencil preparatory drawing is clearly visible beneath the painted surface, confirming Rizzoni's academic working method and the authenticity of the piece. The second reflectogram, focused on the signature, unequivocally demonstrates that it has not undergone any subsequent retouching: the signature is therefore authentic and original.
