Description from the seller

Fine Solid Wood and Root Walnut Chess Set – 1970s Pre-Staunton

Description:
I am selling a splendid and elegant high-quality handcrafted chess set, ideal for collectors, passionate players, or as a refined decorative piece for study rooms and living rooms. The set stands out for the material richness, generous dimensions, and fine Ebony woodworking finish.

Specifications and Dimensions:
• Chessboard Size: 43 cm x 43 cm, an ideal measurement for both playing and display.
• King Height: Substantial 17 cm with a solid, stable weight of 95 grams.

Materials and Wood Species:
• The Pieces (32 total): Entirely made of precious solid wood, finely turned by hand with a classic concentric ring design in Pre-Staunton style.

o Light Pieces: Made from premium natural Boxwood, solid and dense, characterized by the typical warm honey hue.

o Dark Pieces: Probably Rosewood, recognizable by its deep brown color and warm, pronounced grain.

o Base Detail: Each piece is finished at the base with a soft red anti-noise and anti-scratch felt cloth, ensuring excellent movement fluidity.
• The Chessboard: Solid playing board with a stunning mirror-like glossy finish that highlights the wood’s natural fibers.

o Light Squares: Presumably Applewood (Maple) inlay, linear and bright.

o Dark Squares and Perimeter Frame: Made from precious Root Walnut (Nuts/Black Walnut), giving the chessboard its characteristic elegant “marbled” and figured effect.

Condition of the item:
The set is in overall excellent condition. The playing surface has a wax finish and is well preserved, and all pieces are stable, complete, and free of structural defects.
The back is probably oak wood.
