Description from the seller
American Waltham Watch Co. – Antique pocket watch – 19th century – Key-wound – Engraved case
Interesting antique pocket watch bearing on the dial the signature A.W.W. Co. – Waltham, Mass., attributable to the historic American Waltham Watch Company, an important American watchmaking firm founded in the 19th century.
The piece presumably dating to the second half of the nineteenth century, characterized by a refined classic aesthetic and by a metal case with engraved decorations and inner hallmarks.
The white dial presents elegant black Roman numerals, gold hands, and a small seconds subdial positioned at 6 o'clock.
The case, silver-toned, features knurling along the edge and an outer back cover adorned with a central ornamental engraving depicting a stylized shield with decorative motifs.
Inside are visible several punch marks, including the initials A B, which could refer to the case maker. The material and any silver content are yet to be verified.
Condition of preservation
The watch is presented in condition compatible with its age and use.
The case shows scratches, oxidation and superficial signs of wear.
The dial retains good legibility, though showing aging. The hands and the small seconds subdial are present.
The movement's operation has not been verified and no recent servicing has been documented.
The watch is therefore offered as an antique collectible, potentially subject to inspection or servicing by a specialized watchmaker.
Collector interest
An interesting item for enthusiasts of 19th-century American watchmaking.
The Waltham signature, the key-wound mechanism, the decorated case and the presence of punch marks confer to this piece a particular historical and collectible interest.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and document the actual condition of the item.
