Description from the seller
Tenuta San Leonardo – San Leonardo 1999
A benchmark Bordeaux-style blend from Trentino, the 1999 San Leonardo is widely regarded as one of the estate's finest mature vintages. Produced predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon, with Carmenère, Cabernet Franc (or the Carmenère then identified as Cabernet Franc), and a small proportion of Merlot, it embodies the estate's hallmark elegance, freshness and remarkable longevity.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby with light garnet reflections. The bouquet is refined and multilayered, revealing ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, followed by tobacco, cedar, truffle, leather, dark chocolate, cocoa, sweet spices, licorice and subtle balsamic herbs. Delicate hints of eucalyptus and graphite add further complexity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, with silky, well-integrated tannins, vibrant acidity and impressive depth. Concentrated dark fruit is complemented by notes of spice, minerals and dried herbs, leading to a long, persistent and elegant finish. Despite its age, the wine retains exceptional freshness and continues to evolve beautifully in the glass.
Food Pairing
Excellent with roasted lamb, braised beef, venison, game birds, porcini mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses.
