Paul Faccetti, Portrait de Salvador Dalí, 1948, gelatin silver print, edition 5/9, signed, portrait, image size 28 × 22 cm, SUP condition.
Description from the seller
Rare gelatin silver bromide print by the photographer and gallerist Paul Faccetti, signed and dated 1948 and numbered artist's proof 5 of 9. It is a rarissime exemplaire in perfect condition representing the most famous and most whimsical surrealist painter: Salvador Dalí. This superb photographic portrait is a magical moment born from the talent of the author and of his model.
Paul Faccetti is a legend in the history of photography. Born in Coccaglio, Brescia, on September 1, 1912, and died in Joigny on November 27, 2010, he opened a photographic studio in the mid-1930s at 198 rue Saint-Jacques in Paris and took portraits. He quickly became known and surrounded by artists and men of letters, for whom he produced numerous portraits (Dalí, Breton, Dubuffet, Truman Capote, etc.) and opened an art gallery. His name is associated with many retrospectives at the Centre Pompidou, such as that of Alberto Giacometti, for whom he took many photos of the sculptor, of his works, and of his studio. His name is linked to the history of the “Modernos” from 1930 to 1970. This is a purchase that does not come up often on the market. It could be enhanced by placing it in a black and gold Baroque frame that majestically occupies the center of a wall.
