Description from the seller
Antique Wall Crucifix – Patinated Plaster Corpus of Christ on Solid Wooden Cross – Early 20th Century
DESCRIPTION
Beautiful antique wall crucifix featuring a finely detailed representation of Jesus Christ on a traditional solid wooden cross.
Dating approximately from the late 19th to the early 20th century, this religious piece displays an expressive and carefully modelled figure of Christ, with his head gently inclined, a detailed crown of thorns and an intricately draped loincloth.
The corpus is believed to be made of moulded plaster with an aged, ivory-coloured patinated finish. The natural variations in colour and surface texture give the sculpture an attractive antique appearance.
The wooden cross features a warm brown finish, simple decorative edges and an original-style INRI plaque positioned above the figure.
The sculpture is particularly appealing for its expressive facial features, anatomical detailing and beautifully rendered folds of fabric.
Dimensions:
* Total height: approximately 60 cm
* Total width: approximately 40 cm
* Total weight: 750 g
Materials:
* Corpus: presumed patinated plaster
* Cross: solid wood
* INRI plaque: wood
Period: Late 19th – early 20th century (estimated).
Origin: Europe, possibly France or Belgium.
Condition:
Good antique condition, showing natural signs of age and use.
The sculpture displays an attractive aged patina, with some surface wear, small chips, marks and minor imperfections consistent with its presumed age.
The wooden cross also shows signs of age, contributing to its authentic vintage character.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
A charming and decorative piece of traditional Christian religious art, suitable for collectors of antique devotional objects, religious sculptures and ecclesiastical decorations.
The crucifix will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
