Emile Vernon
French, 1872-1920
Émile Vernon initially studied design at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tours, where he won the first prize in design in 1888 at the age of sixteen. At eighteen, he moved to Paris to study with the celebrated teachers and artists William Bouguereau and Auguste Truphème at the École des Beaux-Arts.
In 1898, he participated in two exhibitions: the first at the Exposition of Fine Arts and Decorative Arts in Paris and the second, in the same year, at the Salon des Artistes Français. From then on, Émile Vernon exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1898 to 1913. Although he painted portraits, landscapes, and bouquets of flowers, his specialty became painting beautiful women and children, works in high demand in America, Canada, and Japan.
Émile Vernon also received numerous commissions for decorative frescoes and oil paintings for the theater in Châtellerault in 1898. He also produced paintings for the theater in Nevers. In 1904, he exhibited at the Royal Academy in London the floral painting Rose. Émile Vernon died in 1920 aged 48.
If sold, the painting will be adequately packaged for shipment.
