Description from the seller

Held in Tension – XXL

Anna Bila | 2026 | 100 x 100 cm

Description

Held in Tension explores the fragile equilibrium between connection and independence, movement and stillness.

Three organic forms appear to emerge from one another, their boundaries dissolving into a continuous flow of colour. Deep violet, vibrant magenta, and soft blue create a dynamic composition in which the forms seem simultaneously drawn together and pulled apart.

The painting captures a moment of suspended transformation — a state in which opposing forces coexist without resolution.

Created with diluted inks and pigments on natural cotton canvas, the work reflects Anna Bila’s distinctive approach to materials. Water, gravity, and the absorbent surface of the fabric guide the movement of pigments, producing delicate transitions, unexpected textures, and subtle variations in colour.

Part of the artist’s ongoing Living Stone series, Held in Tension continues her exploration of organic abstraction, where seemingly solid forms reveal an underlying fluidity and vulnerability.

The minimalist composition allows the interaction of colour and form to take centre stage, inviting viewers to discover their own associations with intimacy, tension, balance, and transformation.
