Description from the seller
Bronze sculptural figure representing a young man leaning on a railing.
Eutrope Bouret (France, 1833–1906)
General Description
Magnificent bronze sculpture cast with an-era patina, created by the renowned French sculptor Eutrope Bouret (1833–1906). The work represents a young man in rustic or peasant clothing, with a hat and wearing a vest and knickerbockers, resting in a relaxed stance, standing and leaning the foot and arm on a naturalistic wooden structure.
The piece stands out for the exquisite level of technical detail characteristic of Bouret's creations: realism in the facial expression, anatomical modeling of feet and hands, the drapery folds of the attire, and the rough textures of the rock. A pupil of Louis Buhot and a regular at the Paris Salon between 1875 and 1903, Bouret established himself at the end of the 19th century as one of the great masters of figurative and French academic bronze.
The sculpture rests on a solid circular molded base and is duly signed on the back of the figure, offering an imposing presence and a considerable weight that attest to the quality of the bronze casting.
