A 1275 g core of a planetoid disintegrated during the ongoing impact that occurred during the formation of the solar system, with an estimated formation age of about 4.0 billion years. It arrived in the form of a meteorite around 2500 BCE in present-day Argentina.

In 2008, the government of Argentina banned the export of meteorites; Campo del Cielo specimens have rapidly increased in value.

The certificate from the IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association), number #7412, guarantees the authenticity of this piece.
