"La Cible", 2014
Oil on plywood + collages, 80 × 80 cm
Signed, dated and located on the back
Simple plastic frame made by the artist
Condition: a few small surface scratches and minor damage visible, particularly on the orange and red areas; overall painting in good condition.
Description
Geometric composition square in format, organized around a target motif with concentric circles. Colored bands (magenta, orange, green, blue, turquoise, cream) interlock and offset on either side of a thick black vertical axis.
The corners are treated in contrasting geometric registers: vertical yellow and blue stripes on the left, horizontal orange and white bands on the right. The color is laid flat, the brushwork remains visible, the black structures and rhythms the whole.
The radial organization and the juxtaposition of colored circles evoke certain Kandinsky compositions, without reducing to them.
Biography
Former student of L'École Boulle and the Arts décoratifs, Jean-Louis Dhuit was head of set design at ORTF before settling in Étagnon, near Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme). Under the name Kesta, he develops a personal body of work where geometric and optical abstraction takes a central place, alongside gestural series, landscapes and figures. Regular exhibitions in the Livradois.
