Bomschuiten op het strand is a 1910 oil on canvas by Dutch artist P. Bruyn (1857-1947), hand-signed, from the Netherlands, a classical maritime painting sold with frame in excellent condition; unframed dimensions are 51 x 71 cm, framed 90 x 70 cm.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and atmospheric maritime masterwork by the Dutch artist P. Bruyn (1857-1947).
This classic oil painting, titled Hollandse Bomschuiten, depicts an iconic Dutch scene in the tradition of the Hague School: traditional wooden bomschuiten (flat-bottom boats) moored on the sandy shore as dusk falls or daybreak arrives. The artist has captured the serene calm and the impressive play of light on the water with a warm, diffuse palette in sublime fashion. The silhouettes of the ship’s masts and the delicate figures on the shore give the work a wonderful depth and nostalgic dynamism.
About the artist:
P. Bruyn was born in 1857 in the harbor city of Rotterdam, which explains his lifelong fascination with maritime scenes and the sea. His works appear on the market only sporadically, making this a rare and sought-after collectible. In addition to his well-known sea- and coastal scenes (such as "Dutch Fishing Boat in Deep Seas"), he is also known for his rare, historic village scenes in the Westland region (South Holland) and atmospheric winter landscapes.
Dimensions with frame B 90 x H70.
In excellent condition.
