AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful painting depicting a battle attributed to the painter Jacques Courtois, known as the Borgognone (The Burgundian), 1621-1676. The painting in question is a tangle of horses and men who, beneath a bluish sky with rosy clouds, fight a battle; smoke swirls around the painting! Historian Giancarlo Sestieri defined the Borgognone as one of the great battle painters. The painting was recently restored and was saved behind an old seal of shellac wax.
Gian Lorenzo Bernini described the Borgognone this way: “among the painters of his time in Europe, none have equaled Courtois in the expression of battle!” I have included a photo of another painting by the Borgognone taken from the internet that is very similar to the painting for sale.
Dimensions of the painting: 0.62 x 0.48 m, with frame 0.69 x 0.55 m.”} }]{
