Landschaft, an oil painting in the late impressionist style dating from 1900–1910, on canvas with a silvered wooden frame, signed and in good condition, measuring 38 cm by 48 cm (frame inclusive 60 cm by 50 cm).
Description from the seller
This landscape painting in the late Impressionist style captures a wide, summery hilly landscape with great atmospheric dynamism.
Image analysis & stylistic features
Composition: A well-trodden field path runs along the right edge of the frame, passing a mighty deciduous tree and drawing deep into the scene. It guides the eye over gently undulating fields to a bluish-looking ridge of hills in the background.
Color scheme: The palette is dominated by bold blues and whites from the broken cloud sky, reflected in the cool tones of the distant mountains. In the foreground, warm earth tones, greens, and small red accents (perhaps poppies) provide focal points.
Painting technique: The brushwork is distinctly impasto, executed with visible, vigorous brushstrokes. Especially the grooves of the path and the cloud structures appearalmost smeared, giving the painting a tangible texture.
Signature & frame: At the bottom right is the ligatured monogram. The silvered wooden frame with a subtle patina stylistically aligns superbly with the cool color mood of the sky and suggests an origin in the first half of the 20th century.
Dimensions incl. frame: 60cm x 50cm
The frame is included free of charge.
