AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A beautiful, characterful architectural temple fragment in the shape of a richly decorated horse head.
This type of woodcarving originally formed part of a ceremonial temple chariot (Ratha), a traditional wooden temple gate, or a historic haveli.
The horse is adorned with traditional, deeply carved ornaments such as a bridle, decorative bands and rosettes on the chest. The layered, weathered polychromy in primary colors (yellow, blue, red) gives the object a splendid, well-worn appearance. In Indian culture the horse symbolizes strength, loyalty and royal dignity.

Condition:
Antique, well-worn state with authentic signs of age.
The wood shows natural checking cracks, wear, old insect bore holes (long inactive) and weathered carving that testify to the considerable age and historical exposure to the elements.
The layers of paint exhibit a beautiful, authentic flaking (patina).
The fragment is firmly and stably mounted on the metal base.

Dimensions:
Height: 39 cm (including stand)
Width: 26 cm
Depth: 8 cm
Weight: 3.8 kg (solid hardwood).

The lot is packaged with utmost care and shipped by registered mail and insured with track & trace.
Pickup is also possible by arrangement.
