Description from the seller

Decorated technique on gilded metal attached to a wooden panel with gold detailing and inscriptions in Cyrillic typical of the Russian Orthodox icon tradition, attributed to regional schools such as Moscow or central Russia.

The Virgin Mary is depicted standing crowned as Queen, with the Baby Jesus in her arms, surrounded by a halo of light and clouds, surrounded by angels and legions of the faithful, the sick and the needy who turn to her in prayer. Around the Virgin are depicted groups of afflicted, suffering, and in need of comfort, together with angels who guide and assist the faithful.
On the sides and at the bottom there are inscriptions in Old Church Slavonic Cyrillic and small cartouches that specify the different categories of pains or the invocations of the suffering; such as "to feed the hungry", "to clothe the naked", "to visit the sick".
