AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Although Pomerol wines have never been classified, Château L'Évangile is undoubtedly among the best wines of the appellation. The estate was created in the mid-18th century by a Libourne family, the Léglise, who contributed to the constitution of the Pomerol vineyard, alongside the owner families of Petrus (Arnaud family), La Conseillante (Catherine Conseillant) and Trotanoy (Giraud family). Formerly called Fazilleau, the estate took the name L'Évangile at the very beginning of the 19th century, under the leadership of lawyer Isambert, who remained owner until 1862. Bought by Paul Chaperon, Château L'Évangile remained in the fold of his descendants, the Ducasses, until 1990. Since that date, the Lafite Rothschild team has gradually regained control of the estate. The former owners were already perfectly aware of the remarkable potential of this exceptional terroir, consisting of a deep and heterogeneous subsoil of gravels intermingled with clay and sand. Even the formidable frosts of the winter of 1956 could not quite get the better of Château L'Évangile's vineyard. Louis Ducasse took over the estate still bloodless, renewed the vineyard and raised it in a few years to its best level. A level that would not decline, even after his death in 1982, since his wife took over with remarkable tenacity. Since 1990, the estate has been owned by the Barons de Rothschild group, which has devoted all the necessary attention and investments to it.

About the cuvée
Today, the new team practices the latest possible harvests to obtain grapes of perfect maturity, with limited yields and an 18-month élevage in 70% new oak barrels. The clearly stated ambition to elevate L'Évangile to the highest rank of the appellation seems achieved: these wines, rich and with a deep ruby color and aromas of raspberry, blackberry, sometimes licorice, show an impressive aging potential.
