AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Splendid and evocative oil painting on canvas depicting a forest scene with a luminous clearing in the background, by the renowned German landscape painter Peter Paul Müller (1853–1930).
The work is faithfully signed at the bottom left and best expresses the artist's mastery, a prominent exponent of the Munich Secession and the Luitpold Group. The painting style fits perfectly into the lyrical Naturalism of the late nineteenth century, characterized by a rich, tactile brushwork and a superb study of light ("plein air") filtering through tall trees.
Müller's works are of great historical significance, particularly due to the tragic loss of 22 of his masterpieces in the 1931 fire at the Münchner Glaspalast. The painting is presented in an elegant contemporary wooden frame with a fabric passe-partout. From a private collection.
