Description from the seller

Painting, oil on panel depicting an alpine landscape of a high valley. In the foreground a shepherd's path with low vegetation and blooms, in the center a shepherdess and two cows. In the background, a broad valley between two rocky escarpments and a snow-covered glacier, an overcast sky with diffused light.
The type of painting corresponds to the Magenta phase, when the artist paints 'meadows of grass with tall leafy trees, animated by cows, peasants or shepherdesses at work.'

Dimensions: cm. 59 x 43 - with frame cm. 44 x 27 - without frame

Frame: a contemporaneous wooden box frame with guilloché finish from the 1930s. Black-brown gessoed wood - woven basket-like motif, middle band in glossy fake burl, with light abrasions, wear marks consistent with age. On the back a triangular hanger and butterfly nails on wood, typical of Turin framers of the period.

Signature: Signed bottom left and on the back: C. Gheduzzi - Cesare Gheduzzi was an Italian landscape and marine painter, faithful to a naturalist vision with a search for scenic and lyrical effects. Scenic training = broad and theatrical compositions, horizontally expansive. He does not adopt theoretical divisionism; assured brushwork, minute human figures inserted as scale and a note of daily life.

Era: Dating: circa 1935 - 1942

Condition: Support stable, no warping. Back with counter-signature C. Gheduzzi, inventory note: H III. Paint film: intact with no color losses or lifts, limited craquelure. No invasive restoration visible. Overall good preservation.
