Description from the seller
Japan – Large bowl / Satsuma Kutani urn with dense decoration of a thousand flowers (Milliflower / Komon) and medallions – Meiji Period (late 19th century / early 20th century)
Exceptional and large round bowl in Japanese fine porcelain or earthenware of Satsuma/Kutani type, characterized by extremely meticulous and dense painting work.
The exterior and interior of the bowl are entirely covered by a sumptuous "Milliflowers" decoration (Komon), consisting of a multitude of chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms and stylized floral motifs in vibrant colors (gold, red, pink, blue, green and white). The whole is punctuated by circular disks and medallions containing delicate floral scenes, geometric motifs and traditional symbols. The upper rim is finely beaded / lobed and outlined with rich gold.
The base bears a boxed Japanese manufacturing mark Signed Koshida (越田)
Technical characteristics
Origin: Japan
Era: Late Meiji period (late 19th – early 20th century)
Material: Glazed ceramic/porcelain, with fine gold highlights (kinrande)
Dimensions: Diameter 22.2 cm with a height of 8.6 cm
Weight: 850 g (a beautiful heavy and stable piece)
Overall condition: Good overall condition for an old piece of this quality.
