Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made his name with a series dedicated to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This inquiry into gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate figures gain a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity that is immediately recognizable. Created with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit within the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by an authenticity certificate. The prints are produced on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, silkscreened between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great resistance over time, color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops authorial work and music, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photobook and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
