Description from the seller
David Law
Artist Photographer – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued then by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of Legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have left their mark on history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity instantly recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit within the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of the gesture. Deep black tones and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless interpretation of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated back mounting system. Printed on luminous white vinyl, affixed between two aluminum plates, with UV- and humidity-resistant soft lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-lasting color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops an authorial and musical portfolio including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
