Description from the seller
Antique Wooden Hunting Duck Decoy – Hand-Carved and Hand-Painted – Original Patina – Circa 1930–1950
A splendid antique wooden hunting duck decoy, beautifully hand-carved and hand-painted, featuring an elegant elongated silhouette, expressive details and an exceptionally attractive original-looking patina.
Presumably dating from the first half of the 20th century, circa 1930–1950, this charming example embodies the traditional craftsmanship associated with historic waterfowl hunting.
The decoy is distinguished by its gracefully sculpted head, long black bill, striking yellow-ringed eyes and finely executed feather decorations. The harmonious combination of deep brown, warm beige and black creates a remarkably natural and appealing appearance.
Particularly fascinating is the beautifully aged painted surface, displaying subtle traces of earlier red pigmentation, gentle wear and rich colour variations developed over time. These characteristics contribute to its authentic antique character and considerable decorative appeal.
The carefully painted feather patterns, elegant proportions and distinctive silhouette make this decoy a wonderful example of traditional folk craftsmanship.
Condition
Excellent antique condition considering its presumed age and historical use.
The decoy retains a beautiful original-looking patina, with natural signs of age and wear consistent with its history.
No obvious restorations or significant structural damage are visible. The painted decoration remains remarkably well preserved, maintaining its original character and visual appeal.
