The Raymond Weil Othello is an ultra-thin vintage watch line introduced by the Swiss luxury brand in 1982
Origins and Description
• Launch Date: Unveiled in 1982 during the height of the Quartz Crisis to help redefine the young brand's identity.
• Ultra-Thin Profile: Famous for a remarkably slim case measuring around 1.2mm thick, competing with high-end ultra-thin styles of the era.
• Thematic Name: Inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello, leaning into dramatic, elegant, and dark motifs.
• Distinctive Dials: Best known for striking minimalist black dials that projected a bold, mysterious aesthetic.
• Expansion: Following its debut, variations of the Othello—including gold-plated editions and small dress sizes around 23mm to 31mm—were produced through the late 1980s and 1990s. [
