Description from the seller
Artist:
Line Vautrin, born April 28, 1913 in Paris where she died April 12, 1997, is a French artist, designer, jewelry and decorative object creator. Daughter of an art metalworker, she left school at 15. An original and independent artist, she created her first works before turning 21.
She sold her first creations door-to-door and briefly worked at Elsa Shiaparelli’s house. She established her reputation at the 1937 Paris Exposition Universelle, where she ran a stand. There she presented a diversified collection featuring her famous bronze buttons, but also necklaces, bracelets, earrings, as well as many other fashion accessories. She opened a new shop at 3 rue de l’Université, where she exhibited decorative objects and “witch” mirrors.
She counted among her clients Françoise Sagan, Ingrid Bergman, and Yves Saint Laurent. In 1992, she received the National Prize for the Arts and Crafts (National Award for the Arts and Crafts) for her research into decoration techniques.
She died suddenly of a heart attack on April 12, 1997, two years before her retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
