Pair of wall shelves carved in wood, polychrome painted and gilded, dating to around 1900, in Rococo-Baroque style with Venetian origin, measuring 41x27x16 cm and described in good condition with age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Magnificent pair of baroque polychromed wall shelves in carved wood, polychrome and gilded – refined ornamental sculpture of high era circa 19th 1820. 41cm X 27 cm
Splendid pair of decorative wooden elements finely carved, characterized by extraordinary ornamental richness and a refined composition of volutes, acanthus leaves, racemes and phytomorphic motifs, executed with notable craftsmanship and sculptural sensitivity.
The decoration stands out for the elegant sinuous course of the volutes, which intertwine in a dynamic and airy composition, creating a suggestive play of solid and voids and spaces.
The ornamental repertoire, clearly inspired by Baroque and Rococo, reveals a cultivated decorative taste, conceived to embellish representative furnishings or environments of particular prestige.
Of particular charm is the original polychromy or antique execution, in delicate ivory, old rose and green gilded tones, enhanced by refined gold details.
The different color nuances highlight the relief of the carvings and confer to the whole a soft and sophisticated luminosity, typical of decorative ensembles intended for aristocratic and ecclesiastical contexts.
The workmanship presents a decidedly artisanal character, with individually modeled foliage, elaborate curls and a notably complex ornamental composition.
The overall effect is that of a sculptural decoration of great visual impact, capable of giving character and prestige to a collection of decorative arts, to a classic interior or to a high-level restoration and furnishing project.
The pair is suitable to be valorizable as an autonomous antique element, or as part of a larger historical decorative apparatus, compatibly with its original function.
A set of great decorative suggestion, ideal for collectors of wooden sculpture, enthusiasts of antique decorative arts, antique dealers and interior designers seeking pieces with strong aesthetic identity.
Era: circa 1800
Material: carved wood, polychrome and with gilding.
Condition: shows ancient localized restorations of the finish and signs of wear, to be evaluated in relation to age and conservation history of the artifacts. Retouches and re-assemblies.
Provenance and attribution: private collection
A pair of remarkable charm, in which the richness of the carving, the delicacy of the color palette and the elegance of the shapes merge in a testimony of refined ornamental culture.
Patina of the present time, oil painting, ancient gilding.
Observe the photographs of the details, an integral part of the description.
