Description from the seller
Giuseppe Cappellano's Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris 2011 is a legendary red wine with a deeply traditional character, produced from the historic Gabutti cru in Serralunga d'Alba, Piedmont. This Barolo represents one of the highest artisanal expressions of the Langhe, renowned for its longevity, power, and stylistic rigor.
Key Characteristics of Piè Rupestris 2011 The Vineyard and Origin:
Produced 100% from Nebbiolo grapes grown on old vines planted in the 1940s.
The name "Piè Rupestris" indicates that the vines are grafted onto American rootstock (Vitis Rupestris), differentiating it from the even rarer and more exclusive Piè Franco (ungrafted vines).
Traditional Vinification: Follows the Cappellano family's rigidly classical philosophy. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in cement vats for about 2-3 weeks, followed by a long aging of at least 3 years (about 36 months) in large oak casks, with no clarification or filtration.
Sensory Profile:
Color: Deep ruby red that shifts toward garnet and orange tones as it evolves.
Nose: Complex and layered, opening with notes of ripe red fruit (cherry, strawberry) before evolving toward balsamic notes, dried violet, sweet spices, undergrowth, leather, and tobacco.
Palate: A powerful and austere structure typical of the Serralunga terroir. The tannins, though solid and integral, are softened by time and supported by a splendid freshness and sapidity, guiding toward a very long and coherent finish.
Vintage 2011: A generally warm vintage that delivered beautiful fruit concentration and optimal tannic ripeness, making the wine slightly more approachable in its youth while preserving its monumental aging potential.
