AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Extraordinary oil on canvas by the renowned Basque painter Resu Arrúe, belonging to the celebrated artistic lineage of the Arrúe brothers, pillars of Basque regionalist and costumbrista art of the 20th century.
The work portrays a arrantzale (Basque fisherman) dressed in his characteristic green-water raincoat facing the bay and the port, with small boats in the background under a leaden sky typical of the Cantabrian Sea. It highlights the expressive strength of the figure, the firmness of the brushwork, and the palette of greenish, gray, and ochre tones.
-Characteristics and authenticity:
Signed: Brush-signed by the artist in the lower right corner: "Resu Arrúe".
Authenticated on the back: Titled and signed on the reverse in the painter's own handwriting on the canvas: "RESU ARRUE / 55x46 Arrantzale with raincoat".
Support: Oil on canvas mounted on its original wooden stretcher (55×46 cm).
Condition: In excellent conservation condition, protected with a solid decorative frame.
An immaculate piece for collectors of Basque art, nautical themes, and 20th-century figurative painting.
