Description from the seller

Magnificent female portrait by the French painter Raymond Tellier (1897–1985), signed in the upper left and dated in the upper right.

The work depicts an elegant, half-length female portrait with a serene expression and gaze directed at the viewer. The treatment of light on the face stands out, as does the loose, impasto brushwork characteristic of Tellier's painting.

The composition presents an attractive color range, with predominance of reddish and ochre tones in the clothing and bluish and gray tones in the background.

Raymond Tellier was a French painter known especially for his portraits, figures, landscapes and scenes of exotic character. Trained at the Beaux-Arts schools in Douai and Lille, he developed a wide artistic career and also undertook numerous travels through Africa. His work is represented in collections and has regularly appeared on the international auction market.

The work is signed and dated, which adds special interest for collectors of twentieth-century French painting.
