Description from the seller
Bauhaus Excellence: Set of 4 Cesca Chairs - Marcel Breuer Design – Thonet Production
We present at auction an exceptional set of four Cesca chairs, an absolute masterpiece of 20th-century design. Designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928, these seats represent the perfect synthesis between the rationalist aesthetics of Bauhaus and the innovation of the cantilever structure.
Thonet production, extremely rare and little disseminated, makes this set a highly valuable collectible.
Design and history:
The Cesca chair represents the sublime synthesis between industrial innovation and the sartorial elegance of superior craftsmanship.
Structural revolution and cantilever: the unmistakable signature of the model is the chromed steel tubular continuous frame without rear legs, which gives a pleasant and elastic sense of suspension. This concept forever redefined the idea of a seat.
Noble materials: the material contrast between the gleam of metal, the black-lacquered solid wood frames, and the delicate Vienna straw weave creates a timeless visual harmony, suitable for both classical and contemporary environments.
Excellence in production: these chairs are produced by the historic Thonet company, one of the early and principal producers of this model.
Lot conditions:
The batch of 4 Cesca chairs in auction presents in excellent working condition.
Structure: the chromed steel tubular frames are solid, sturdy, and free of structural defects. After professional cleaning and polishing, the chrome has regained its original shine and now shows only slight signs of wear consistent with the lot’s age.
Wood and Vienna straw: the beech wood frames lacquered in black and the Vienna straw are in excellent conservative condition. The natural weave maintains beautiful tension and optimal resistance. The surfaces have been treated with professional products that, while preserving the original patina, enliven the grain and enhance their appearance. The minimal and physiologic signs of time give the chairs that particular charm that attests to their authenticity.
Dimensions:
Width: 46 cm
Depth: 54 cm
Height: 79 cm
