Description from the seller
The Presence of Absence
There are moments when we stop showing ourselves to the world, without stopping to exist.
In The Presence of Absence, the face disappears behind the hands, withdrawing from sight and leaving space to a deeper presence: that of the inner being. The gesture creates a distance between oneself and the outside world, a subtle boundary between what we choose to reveal and what we guard in silence.
The figure does not tell a single emotion. It can be a refuge, a defense, a moment of contemplation, or the need to rediscover oneself away from the eyes of others.
The absence of the face thus becomes a possibility of recognition. Deprived of a defined identity, the body becomes a mirror in which each viewer can find something of their own experience: the words never spoken, the hidden fragilities, the parts of oneself that are rarely granted to the world.
With this sculpture, Serena Grassetti explores the boundary between visible and invisible, transforming a bodily gesture into a universal reflection on identity and the complexity of existence.
An artwork that asks not only to be observed, but to be recognized.
Material: resin and marble powder
Edition LIMITATA of 50 copies.
* Original piece signed by the artist, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
SERENA GRASSETTI — CONTEMPORARY ARTIST
Serena Grassetti is an Italian contemporary artist whose research investigates the complexity of being human, exploring identity, memory, fragility and inner transformation through a personal and multidisciplinary artistic language.
Daughter of artists, trained at the Istituto d’Arte di Macerata, she has developed over the years a deep knowledge of matter and its expressive possibilities, experimenting with painting, sculpture, modelling, resins, charcoal and techniques related to Natural Art. This experience constitutes the foundation of a practice in which the material is not a mere support, but an integral part of the meaning of the work.
At the center of her research is the body understood as a psychological and symbolic space: a presence capable of manifesting what words cannot express. Through incomplete figures, gestures charged with tension, and forms that oscillate between presence and dissolution, Grassetti gives visual substance to the deepest states of human experience.
Her work sits in the international dialogue of sculpture and contemporary figurative art, in thematic relation to the research of Rabarama, Berlinde De Bruyckere and Xiang Jing, while the comparison with Andy Warhol, Banksy and KAWS opens a reflection on the different ways in which contemporary art interprets identity and the human condition.
With works presented in exhibition contexts in Italy and abroad, Serena Grassetti develops a research oriented toward surpassing superficial representation to reach a more intimate and universal dimension. Her poetics are founded on a fundamental principle: to give form to what is not seen, but which profoundly determines what we are.
