Description from the seller
Gaze — from the Remnants series
Unique Work
Gaze belongs to the Remnants series, a project dedicated to what remains when image, identity and matter undergo a process of transformation.
In this work the face emerges only partially from the surface, like a fragment left after a progressive subtraction. At the center of the composition remains the gaze: direct, intense, immediately recognizable. The incompleteness of the face creates a tension between what disappears and what continues to be present.
The work is made on cotton fabric with natural pigments extracted and treated by hand, including pomegranate, walnut and other tones obtained from vegetal materials. The pigments undergo a specific treatment for fabrics that allows their penetration and fixation in the fiber, making the color stably printed in the fabric and resistant over time. The charcoal completes the composition, while drips, traces and irregularities of the material remain intentionally visible.
The palette of ochre, earth tones and black, crossed by the cold tone of the eye, creates a balance between rough material and figurative representation.
Gaze thus interprets one of the central themes of Remnants: identity not as a complete and defined image, but as something that persists precisely through what is erased, consumed and transformed.
* Shipping and presentation:
The work will be shipped without a frame, rolled carefully on a tube to ensure maximum safety during transport. It may be framed or mounted on a frame at the discretion of the collector.
* Original piece signed by the artist, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
This work is realized on a canvas without a frame and is shipped rolled to ensure maximum safety during transport.
ATTENTION:
*The canvas is not treated with plaster or primer, thus it is a raw and natural material.
*Should not be pulled excessively during framing to avoid alterations to the texture and the rendering of the natural pigments.
*Do not use the stretcher bar, as it could compromise the stability of the work.
*It is advisable to rely on an expert framer for optimal mounting.
Created on a raw canvas that enhances the materiality of the work, this piece unites figurative art with the expressive gesture of abstraction, evoking emotion and introspection.
SERENA GRASSETTI — CONTEMPORARY ARTIST
Serena Grassetti is an Italian contemporary artist whose research explores the complexity of the human being, examining identity, memory, fragility and inner transformation through a personal and multidisciplinary artistic language.
Daughter of art, trained at the Art Institute of Macerata, she has developed over the years a deep knowledge of matter and its expressive possibilities, experimenting with painting, sculpture, modeling, resins, charcoal and techniques related to Natural Art. This experience forms the foundation of a practice in which the material is not just a support, but an integral part of the meaning of the work.
At the center of her research is the body understood as psychological and symbolic space: a presence capable of manifesting what words cannot express. Through incomplete figures, gestures charged with tension and forms oscillating between presence and dissolution, Grassetti gives visual substance to the deepest states of human experience.
Her work sits in the international dialogue of sculpture and contemporary figurative art, in thematic relation to the research of Rabarama, Berlinde De Bruyckere and Xiang Jing, while the comparison with Andy Warhol, Banksy and KAWS opens a reflection on the different ways in which contemporary art interprets identity and the human condition.
With works presented in exhibition contexts in Italy and abroad, Serena Grassetti develops research aimed at overcoming superficial representation to reach a more intimate and universal dimension. Her poetics rests on an essential principle: giving form to what is not seen, but which profoundly determines what we are.
