Three bound albums from the Journal de Spirou, issues 13 to 15, issued 1943–1945 in the EO edition by Dupuis, with Jijé and various authors, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Superb lot consisting of 3 bound-era albums from the mythical Journal de Spirou, covering an essential historical period (World War II):
Album No. 13 (1943-1944)
Cover: Front cover illustrated by the famous bobsleigh scene (“La belle équipe”).
Back: Original brown/bordeaux cloth spine with a small wear/tear at the center of the spine.
Back cover: Mention of the publisher J. Dupuis, Fils & C° and Authorization No. 3119. Scuffs and patina of time.
Interior: The booklet is solidly bound, aged paper yellowed without major damage. Presence of complete stories, the Le Fureteur column, the Sports section and emblematic bandes dessinées (Jijé, etc.).
Album No. 14 (1944)
Cover: Front cover illustrated by the fanfare/music scene (“Album No. 14”).
Spine: Original cloth spine in very good condition.
Back cover: Mention Maison d'Éditions J. Dupuis, Fils & C°. A pencil/blue-ink initial mark in the upper left corner.
Interior: Beautifully held booklet, pages clean. Contains emblematic adventure series such as Cavalier Rouge and Les Aventures de Spirou.
Album No. 15 (1944-1945)
Cover: Front cover “15e Album de Spirou” very colorful and richly illustrated.
Spine: Original Bordeaux cloth spine.
Bookbinding condition: Note: The inner block of pages is detached from the binding structure (the booklets remain bound together, but the entire block is detached from the cloth spine). This remains a classic flaw and repairable for albums of this era.
Back cover: Slightly worn/patina with the publisher’s mark Dupuis in the bottom right.
Interior: Contains notably issue No. 1 of the year 1944. Pages complete and clean despite the patina of time.
The bound albums of Journal de Spirou published under Occupation and immediately after Liberation (Nos. 10 to 18) are especially sought after.
