Description from the seller
Holland Mechanical Desk Perpetual Calendar – Double-Sided – Chrome Metal – 1950s-1960s
Elegant mechanical desk perpetual calendar dating from the 1950s-1960s, evoking the traditional charm of the Netherlands. This vintage object stands out with its chrome metal frame, its double-sided circular dial, and its colorful Dutch-inspired illustrations. Both decorative and functional, it is a fine example of Mid-Century retro desk accessory.
Double-Sided Decor
* Face A: picturesque illustration featuring a windmill, a field of tulips, and a young woman dressed in traditional Dutch costume. The inscription “HOLLAND” appears on a stylized parchment.
* Face B: decorative composition gathering the coats of arms of the Netherlands’ provinces around a bouquet of tulips, with the inscription “HOLLAND” at the base.
Mechanism and Operation
This calendar uses an ingenious tipping mechanical system. The date change is achieved by rotating the dial 360° on its horizontal axis, allowing the internal plates to tilt under gravity to display the next date.
Two knurled dials located on the sides of the base allow manual adjustment of the month, indicated in English, as well as the day of the week, displayed in Dutch.
The mechanism has been tested and functions correctly. The internal plates and dials enable the calendar indications to be adjusted.
