Giuseppe Ciavolino (1918-2011) - Natura morta con pesci

Giuseppe Ciavolino – Still Life with Fish, 1980

Oil painting on canvas attributed to Giuseppe Ciavolino, dated 1980, depicting a striking still life with fish. The composition features a rich variety of fish arranged in the foreground, painted with tactile, free and expressive brushstrokes that enhance the forms, scales and chromatic nuances of the depicted elements.

In the background a coastal scene glimpsed with some figures engaged in fishing-related activities, the blue sea and a hilly landscape. The contrast between the still life in the foreground and the marine scene in the background gives depth to the composition and recalls the atmosphere of the daily life of fishermen.

The canvas is characterized by warm and earth-toned hues, such as ochre, brown, red and orange, harmonized with the blues of the sea. The painting style is immediate and expressive, with a lively rendering of the subjects and an interesting construction of the composition.

On the back of the canvas is the inscription «Still life with fish», accompanied by a handwritten signature. The work is enhanced by an important gilded frame with ornamental motifs, which enhances its decorative impact.
