La Deposizione di Cristo nel Sepolcro, an oil painting on canvas from the 19th century in the Nazarene style attributed to a follower of Josef von Führich, Italy, canvas 54 × 69 cm (frame 64 × 79 cm), sold with frame.
Description from the seller
An impressive oil painting on canvas from the 19th century, devotional in inspiration, that echoes the iconographic and stylistic modules of the famous Nazarene artistic movement (close to the compositions of Johann Friedrich Overbeck and Josef von Führich).
The scene depicts the solemn moment of Christ's deposition in the tomb. The lifeless body of Jesus is supported with delicacy and deep pathos by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, while the Virgin Mary, Saint John the Evangelist and the pious women attend the lament in an atmosphere of intense spirituality and contemplation. In the foreground, on the steps leading to the tomb, is placed the vase of fragrant ointments.
The work stands out for its rigorous drawing, harmonious color palette, and attention to drapery, typical of the nineteenth-century Purist painting that looked to the great masters of the Italian Renaissance.
A piece of great visual and historical-religious impact, ideal for collectors of sacred art and nineteenth-century paintings.
The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and does not constitute an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not be a reason
