Reproduction plaster portrait medallion of General Bonaparte by David d'Angers, estimated period 1952, width 80 cm, diameter about 16 cm, total weight 250 g, origin France, unisex display piece in good used condition with some signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Reproduction portrait medallion of General Bonaparte by David d'Angers, probably made of plaster.
The medallion is signed on the back but I can't really read what it says (see last photos) and it was made in 1952.
Diameter +/- 16 cm
The famous medallion by the French sculptor Pierre-Jean David d'Angers that depicts Napoleon Bonaparte is officially known under the inscription that is on it: "Le Général Bonaparte".
Because the artist, for political and democratic reasons, refused to honor the later imperial version of Napoleon, he consciously chose to depict him as the young, republican general at the time of his first Italian campaign (around 1796).
see photos (part of the description and condition).
