Description from the seller
Southeast Asia / Burma (Shan / Tai Yai style) – Rare votive Buddha statuette in repoussé silver leaf over a molded core – Calming/meditation posture – 19th century
Presentation & Iconography
Superb votive statuette depicting the Buddha seated in meditation (Bhumisparsha Mudra / Dhyana Mudra), made using the traditional Southeast Asian goldsmithing technique consisting of shaping a thin repoussé silver leaf over an interior core in resin, clay, or votive plaster to ensure the rigidity of the whole.
Iconography & Headdress: The Buddha is crowned with an ushnisha surmounted by a tall conical flame-shaped tip (flame / rasmi). The face shows a stylized model of great serenity.
Posture & Robing: Represented seated in vajrasana on a smooth pedestal, the body is enveloped in the monastic robe (Sanghati) whose folds are repoussé-engraved on the chest and back.
Traditional fabrication: The visible opening beneath the base reveals the interior filling material, characteristic of this goldsmithing technique popular in the northern regions of Burma (Shan) and Laos.
