Two figures with a cup and fruit
In this composition, Eve Lezcano combines portraiture and still life within the same structure of planes. The opposing profiles define a narrow central interval, while the bodies are linked by diagonals, curves, and color surfaces. The proximity of the figures is built into the very interlacing of the forms.
Pink and green distinguish the characters and reappear in different areas of the painting, establishing correspondences between clothing, fruit, and surroundings. The hats extend the directions of the faces; the black shapes of arms and chair add weight to the whole and sharpen its boundaries.
On the left, the cup and the fruit plate introduce a smaller scale and an elevated perspective. Their arrangement allows viewing simultaneously the objects on the table and the frontality of the figures, in a spatial organization linked to the cubist language.
The uniqueness of the work lies in that balance between recognition and synthesis: each element retains its identity, while taking part in a compact image, sustained by color contrast and the continuity of its outlines.
