Description from the seller
Antique Painting: Pastoral Scene Attributed to Rosa da Tivoli – Oil on Canvas
Important antique oil painting on canvas, attributed to Rosa da Tivoli, depicting a evocative pastoral scene with a shepherd and animals immersed in a natural landscape. The composition features a young shepherd seated on the left, smoking a pipe, surrounded by goats and sheep arranged harmoniously in the foreground, while in the background a hilly landscape with trees and vegetation unfolds.
The work stands out for its particular attention to the representation of animals, rendered with remarkable expressiveness through careful study of anatomy, coats, and chiaroscuro effects. The palette is characterized by warm, earthy tones, with brown, ochre, and greenish-gray shades that give depth and atmosphere to the scene.
The painting surface shows evident widespread craquelure, with some areas of paint loss and signs of age, especially visible in the darker zones and along the edges of the canvas, testimony to the antique conservation state of the work. The painting is framed in a molded gilded wooden frame that enhances its classical and decorative character.
A work of great charm and scenic presence, ideal for collectors of antique paintings, prestigious environments, salons, and historic houses.
