C. F. Lhomond’s Storia abbreviata della Chiesa – Prima edizione napoletana, 1846, is a three‑volume Italian edition of about 1000 pages published by Stamperia Reale with brown leather bindings and gilded decorations.
Description from the seller
C. F. Lhomond – Abbreviated History of the Church – Neapolitan first edition – 1846 – 3 volumes with elegant brown leather bindings and gilded ornaments
Interesting set of three eighteenth-/nineteenth-century volumes of the work Abbreviated History of the Church by C. F. Lhomond, translated from French and provided with notes by the translator.
Naples, from the Royal Printing House, 1846. First edition, as indicated on the title pages.
The work retraces the historical events of the Christian Church, from its origins to later eras, focusing on religious figures, persecutions, martyrs, ecclesiastical events and transformations of Christianity over the centuries.
Particularly striking are the uniform bindings, with brown leather spines featuring raised ribs, richly decorated with elegant floral borders and gilded filigree. Titles, volume numbering and the initials “C.A.C.” impressed in gold. Sturdy boards covered in dark material with impressed decoration.
Condition
The three volumes present an overall good external appearance, with normal signs of aging, slight abrasions and traces of use to the bindings. The gilding on the spines remains legible and decorative.
The internal pages shown generally appear clean and well preserved, with light signs of time. Stamps of previous ownership on some title pages.
A notably attractive decorative and historio-bibliographic interest set, particularly suitable for antique-book collectors, enthusiasts of religious history and libraries with a classical taste.
The lot includes exclusively the first three volumes of the work, not necessarily the complete series.
The photographs constitute an integral part of the description.
