Description from the seller
SAULNIER - Afternoon in the White Chair - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media techniques, acrylic painting · digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
A young man slumped in a carved white armchair, eyes closed, the pink satin shirt open and bare feet on the parquet. Near the window, cold light falls on the blue-gray wall. On the floor, paint traces recall the studio.
The scene sits between rest and exhaustion. The chair, the light and the hanging hand gesture give the painting a very contemporary, slightly detached language. It echoes interior nudes by Balthus, without their ambiguity.
An afternoon that seems to go on forever, where time stops in the white.
Technique mixte : acrylic painting on pigment-ink print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for depth of color and lasting protection of the work.
Support : premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format : to be determined.
Signed SAULNIER · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
SAULNIER is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop and free figuration. Under this name, the Studio explores portraiture and the immobile figure, those moments when a person seems suspended between two gestures: waiting, letting go, lowering the eyes, looking into the distance.
The throughline is the silence of the rooms and the gazes. White interiors, windows, worn parquet floors and the city facades serve as a backdrop to figures who say nothing and leave it to the viewer to guess what comes next. The painting, crisp and laid, dialogues with Hopper’s legacy and postwar portraiture, in a cold light and a waiting that never ends.
Each work is a unique piece.
