Description from the seller
SAULNIER - City Rain, Face Forward - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media, Acrylic painting · Digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
A woman's face occupies the entire canvas, eyes wide open, lips closed. Trails of rain seem to run over the painting, as if the window separates the gaze from the city. Behind her, brick façades and glass buildings rise under a blue-gray sky.
The painting plays with the boundary between inside and outside: is the rain on the skin or on the window? It is an image that nods to Edward Hopper and the urban portraits of the thirties, but turned toward a very present emotion.
A portrait that fixes the spectator and leaves them alone with the city.
Technique mixte : acrylic painting on ink-pigment print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of color and durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed SAULNIER · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
SAULNIER is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. Under this name, the Studio explores portraiture and the still figure, those moments when a person seems suspended between two gestures: waiting, letting go, lowering the eyes, looking into the distance.
The throughline is the silence of the rooms and of gazes. White interiors, windows, worn floors, and city façades serve as the backdrop to figures who say nothing and leave the viewer to guess the rest. The painting, precise and laid down, dialogues with Hopper’s legacy and the postwar portrait, in a cold light and in an enduring wait.
Each work is a unique piece.
