Description from the seller
SAULNIER - Last Call on the Chesterfield - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media, acrylic painting · digital painting · Hand-signed · 2026
Lying on worn parquet, a young man looks at the ceiling, his shirt open and his tie loosened. His midnight blue jacket has fallen beneath him. One hand rests on his abdomen, the other sprawls on the floor.
The painting halts the end of an evening. We think of Brève rencontre's bedroom or the abandoned bodies in Schiele's paintings, but the scene remains simple: a man who lets himself fall and looks toward what he does not say.
An image of fatigue and freedom, at the edge of abandonment.
Technique mixte: acrylic paint on pigment ink print, matte varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of colors and the lasting protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: to be specified.
Signed SAULNIER · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
SAULNIER is one of the creations bringing together the artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. Under this name, the Atelier explores portraiture and the immobile figure, those moments when a person seems suspended between two gestures: waiting, letting go, lowering the eyes, looking into the distance.
The through-line is the silence of the rooms and gazes. White interiors, windows, worn floors and city façades frame figures who say nothing, leaving the spectator to guess what comes next. The painting, clear and deliberate, engages with the Hopper legacy and post-war portraiture, in a cool light and a waiting that never ends.
Each work is a unique piece.
