Florent Kubler is a French contemporary painter and multimedia artist whose work and approach are deeply marked by travel and human exploration.
Education and beginnings:
Born in 1988, Florent Kubler has been passionate about drawing and painting from a very young age. He entered the National School of Art of Nancy (Beaux-Arts), from which he graduated with a design option in 2009. During his studies, he developed a multifaceted profile touching drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and inventive object design.
The founding experience of travel:
Refusing to immediately confine himself to a workshop, he chose solo travel as a form of alternative and superior education. In January 2012, at age 23, he left Place Stanislas in Nancy to undertake a round-the-world hitchhiking journey.
This formative journey spanned several continents. He traveled North America, the Mediterranean, crossed Europe far and wide, North Africa to South, then Asia, then Oceania...
Practicing hitchhiking, walking, train travel, or sailing, and with little financial resources at the start, he used his talent as currency. His drawings, watercolors, and on-site sketches were offered in exchange for kilometers, meals, or accommodations.
To immerse himself in local realities, he also took on small jobs as opportunities arose. This total immersion gave rise to travel notebooks extremely dense, blending sociological sketches and photographs.
These long journeys are intense and sometimes eventful, marked by extreme experiences ranging from encounters with fascinating people and cultures to situations of racketeering, imprisonment, or expulsion.
Artistic style and themes:
Returning to France, Florent Kubler fully dedicates himself to his artistic practice in Nancy. Enriched by his encounters around the world, his art explores the complexities of existence and the essence of humanity.
His paintings and drawings mainly capture scenes of life in motion, seeking to translate social reality and the poetry of daily life. His work, colorful and expressive, is regularly presented in national and international exhibitions. His creations and projects can be followed on contemporary art platforms such as Artsper, Artmajeur. He is also found on the classic networks (Instagram, Facebook).
Florent Kubler’s work centers on capturing movement and spontaneity, inherited directly from his years of sketching the world on the fly.
An expressive and figurative painting:
His style is part of the new figuration. He aims to represent the human figure, not in an academic way, but through dynamic attitudes, postures, and expressions. His subjects often adopt fluid, almost dancing poses.
The artist uses mixed media, oil paint, acrylics, pastels, or Indian ink. He favors decisive, bold brushstrokes, wide and confident. This visible texture gives the canvas a sense of energy and spontaneity, as if the work were created in the urgency of the moment.
His color palette varies, often combining vibrant tones with minimalist backgrounds or more somber palettes (such as variations of blues and browns). He plays strongly with light and shadow to give volume and a three-dimensionality to his moving silhouettes.
His images have found places with numerous international collectors and have been published in various journals (CAN, JDB-Bateau Genève, Bedford Street...).
It is the human being and its complexities that animate his images, from life scenes to explorations of the body and movement.
