Description from the seller
CALIMA (MMXXVI) - Blue Kimono, Red Cushion - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media techniques, Acrylic painting · Pigment ink · Hand-signed · 2026
A woman sleeps half, her head resting on her hand, in a royal blue kimono with peach flowers. She is seated on a blue sofa, in front of a red Persian rug and a lacquered screen. On the black furniture, a blue and white vase and an orange flower complete the scene.
The palette is bold, almost theatrical. The blues and reds respond to each other as in Matisse’s interiors, while the restrained face keeps the mystery of a nap one does not dare disturbing.
An interior scene where color makes all silence.
Mixed technique: acrylic paint on pigment ink print, matte spray varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of blacks and the durable protection of the work.
Support: premium canvas stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format: 40 × 60 cm.
Signed CALIMA · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
CALIMA is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop and free figuration. Under the name CALIMA, the golden haze from the South, the Studio explores a Mediterranean and Latin vein, teeming with sun, faience and color in impasto.
CALIMA brings together figures of women captured in sumptuous interiors, azulejos, embroidered textiles, flowers and fruits, where the woman dreams, reads or rests, accompanied by a conspiratorial animal. The through-line: a dialogue between post-impressionist and Fauvist heritage and a contemporary pop gaze, where the pictorial matter enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
