Description from the seller
CALIMA (MMXXVI) - Blue Kimono, Red Cushion - Mixed media on canvas
Mixed media, acrylic paint · pigment ink · hand-signed · 2026
In a bathhouse with blue and white ceramic walls, a woman with wet hair leans against the bench, wrapped in a sandy-colored towel. An arched niche houses a brass cup and oranges, and a blue jug waits at the foot of the bench.
The painting evokes the baths of the Alhambra and Matisse's Orientalist interiors, yet it preserves the warmth of a private moment.
The towel and the skin respond to the blue tiles, and the terracotta floor brings the scene back to southern light.
A pause in the steam, where time slows between the mosaics.
Technique mixte : acrylic paint on pigment-ink print, matte spray varnish.
Varnish applied by hand, for the depth of the blacks and the lasting protection of the work.
Support : premium canvas stretched over a wooden frame, ready to hang.
Format : 40 × 60 cm.
Signed CALIMA · Galerie Labo Joconde / Atelier Joconde · certificate of authenticity provided.
CALIMA is one of the creations bringing together artists Le Yack, Neo Pablo and Popsan within Atelier Joconde, a family studio where three sensibilities coexist: neo-realism, pop, and free figuration. Under the name CALIMA, the golden haze from the South, the Atelier explores a Mediterranean and Latin vein, soaked in sun, faience and color in impasto.
CALIMA gathers figures of women captured in sumptuous interiors, azulejos, embroidered textiles, flowers and fruits, where the woman dreams, reads or rests, accompanied by a companion animal. The through-line: a dialogue between post-impressionist and Fauvist heritage and a contemporary pop sensibility, where the painterly material enhances and transfigures the printed image.
Each work is a unique piece.
